The new sheikhs from Russia Indiscretions regarding the new queen of superyachts' world rankings of apparently Russian ownership, originate in England and tend to confirm findings by superyacht brokers Nigel Burgess whereby 20% of orders for yachts over 200 feet come from Russia. They in fact corroborate the fact that the over 60 metre market is in great expansion and that it "stars" Russian Owners to be. With its 550 feet, that is 167 metres, "Eclipse", built for Roman Abramovich, is now the largest leisure yacht in the world. It is being built in Hamburg, Germany, by Blohn & Voss who are part of Thyssen Krupp Marine Systems on the lines of the little known design by Terence Disdale of London. We hear, that the "boat" will have two helipads, a cinema, a swimming pool, a compact mini-submarine for general errands, a crew of some 50 members and a price tag that someone guessed to be around the 300 million Euro mark, but that's it. This new comer to the fleet now puts Abramovich well into the lead of the owners with the largest yacht league after having ranked twelfth with his previous yacht "Pelorus", a 377' by Lürssen. London based rumours also hint at the fact that Abramovich may get the title as the yachts' biggest spender thus overthrowing princes and sheikhs. THE FIVE LONGEST BOATS TO DATE: 1.
